Lockdown became our new reality when COVID-19 hit in early 2020. The world was told to stay home while the businesses and places around us began to close down with no promise of reopening in the near future. This series pertains to the closing of the restaurants – just one aspect of our vanishing freedoms that lay before us as Americans experienced the hardship caused by a virus and the political battle that ensued.
Working in the food industry, I felt the impact of restaurants closing as the fear of the unknown disease raged war on our communities. Many of the restaurants and bars in my area closed and sadly, some did not survive. The devastation from the pandemic will echo for years to come within the small businesses and family owned establishments. With this project, my objective was to show the loss of our freedom and independence in an area that most of take for granted by photographing common meals or sides but with a sad twist.
A collection of my favorite works - a little off the beaten path.
